Practicum Project

"Sixth College's Practicum is a mandatory upper-division requirement that engages students in the creative process. To graduate from Sixth College, you must initiate, plan, and execute a Practicum project that connects your classroom-based experiences and knowledge to the outlying community, while at the same time exploring the interplay of culture, art, and technology" (University of California, San Diego, Sixth College).

video & e-mails

My character has made her 5th video. This will illustrate some aspects of culture differences.
The video is about dieting as well as what the character has experienced through her stay in the states.

My character has been receiving e-mail on food as she is interested in what her pen pals like to eat. She is receiving some recipes from them so she may try them out in her videos or write them in her journal.

E-mails

I need to find a way to organize all the e-mails I have been receiving from all around the world.
It is sort of overwhelming me because I don't have time to do the other part of my project when all I am doing is replying to the e-mails my character receives...

Some of them respond so quick that I become overly stressed because for some reason I feel the need that I have to reply when I don't.
There are disturbing e-mails...well I need to figure that one out as well.

I didn't even think I would be doing as much work as I am doing now.
I haven't even got to the part of reading the research materials.

Must organize the e-mails tomorrow.

Fake or Real?

I suppose there are people who would always bully another person for whatever reason there is.

Today my character read a journal of one of her online friends who suffers from bullying at school and I can relate to what she is going through. In my own life I have experienced physical and emotional abuse from people in different countries I have lived in. Mostly because of my race and the way I was brought up to think.

She mentioned about how she wanted to commit suicide at times, but she is still alive.

It is a bit stressful to read such a thing that may be true. There are so many people with stories to tell, which has the ability to move me. Then I start to feel guilty about my project for not telling the truth.

But, what is actually real and what is not in a virtual space?

All I can do for this girl is to provide strength through utilizing my character's virtual body and typing out the thoughts in text. A way of giving back to the person who is participating in my project by following this ancient folklore whether they are fake or not.

Snail Mail

Today I have gotten a lot done.
Kitsune.Suzuki has managed to obtain addresses from people in order to send snail mail.
I have also created a video and edited it (I need to describe the videos I've been making so far because it may not make any sense).

I was a bit surprised of the amount of people who would give out their address without any hesitation. What makes people differentiate who is safe and who isn't when you don't even really know for sure.
Videos of Kitsune.Suzuki might convince them that the girl they see on their monitor is real, but what pushes them to that conclusion?

Tomorrow my character will start writing the letters.

Update, P.O. Box and Digital Folklore Hypertext Story

I have managed to create an address for this fictional character by going to a postal mailbox service and explaining to them about my senior project.
They seemed to be okay with it, but looked at me strangely.

I didn't have enough money to pay them so I rented the P.O. Box by using my credit card. This is when I regretted for not applying to any scholarships, but that's the past so I suppose complaining does nothing at this point.

To this address, I will have her pen pals send snail mail.
The first letter will be sent from Kitsune.Suzuki. She will write the same exact content and observe how the correspondence change through the interactions of snail mail.

I believe through this push and pull relationship, Kitsune.Suzuki will come to life.

Pen Pals

I must create a P.O. box for this character in order to create pen pals as people are interested in writing to her.
