Practicum Project

"Sixth College's Practicum is a mandatory upper-division requirement that engages students in the creative process. To graduate from Sixth College, you must initiate, plan, and execute a Practicum project that connects your classroom-based experiences and knowledge to the outlying community, while at the same time exploring the interplay of culture, art, and technology" (University of California, San Diego, Sixth College).

Public Performance

My first public performance for my character was a great success.
Many people seemed shocked and they were staring at me and pointing fingers.
It was really a very strange experience.
Somehow there were others who saw Kitsune.Suzuki's hair color and it triggered a conversation about what colors they wanted to dye their hair.

Below was the conversation that was heard.

A: Oh my god! Look at that!!!
B: (The girl looks trying not to be obvious) Her hair!
A: That's so cool! What color do you want to color yours?
B: I think purple...what about you?
A: I don't know...so hard to choose.

I found that funny.
There was also a family who started talking to me, but my other "fabricated characters" that were with Kitsune.Suzuki told them that she does not understand English very well.
They were wondering if her hair was a wig or natural.
The other characters told them they don't know, but her hair has been that color ever since they've known her.
They were amazed.

This triggers some interesting aspects about humans.
I also had experiences when I was tricked into believing things that were fabricated, but rather than getting upset I usually realize more things about myself.
Humans have the ability to believe in something that is so fake that it really makes me question many things.
Is it because deep down we're still pure and innocent.
Or is it because we are becoming one with advanced media culture?

Even though Kitsune.Suzuki was in physical space people believed her to exist.
I believe the other character's were a larger part of making this performance more "real."

I am really interested in creating more characters while incorporating real people so they become characters of this digital folklore.

This is giving me a headache though.
